Beliefs

God

Genesis 1:1,26,27; 3:22 Psalm 90:2 Matthew 28:19 I Peter 1:2 II Corinthians 13:14

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.

Man

Genesis 1:27 Psalm 8:3-6 Isaiah 53:6a Romans 3:23 Isaiah 59:1-2

Man is made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. He is the supreme object of God’s creation. Although man has tremendous potential for good, he is marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin.” This attitude separates man from God.

Eternity

John 3:16 I John 2:25 & 5:11-13 Romans 6:23 Revelation 20:15

Man was created to exist forever. He will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or in union with God, through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are places of eternal existence.

Jesus Christ

Matthew 1:22-23 Isaiah 9:6 John 1:1-5 & 14:10-30 Hebrews 4:14-15 I Corinthians 15:3-4 Romans 1:3-4 Acts 1:9-11 I Timothy 6:14-15 Titus 2:13

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all men by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again to earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Salvation

Romans 6:23 Ephesians 2:8-9 John 14:6 & 1:12 Titus 3:5 Galatians 3:26 Romans 5:1

Salvation is a gift from God to man. Man can never make up for his sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can man be saved from sin’s penalty. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith.

Eternal Security

John 10:29 II Timothy 1:12 Hebrews 7:25 & 10:10-14 I Peter 1:3-5

Because God gives man eternal life through Jesus Christ, the believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives this security.

The Holy Spirit

II Corinthians 3:17 John 16:7-13 & 14:16-17 Acts 1:8 I Corinthians 2:12 & 3:16 Ephesians 1:13 Galatians 5:25 Ephesians 5:18

The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. The Christian seeks to live under His control daily.

The Bible

II Timothy 3:16-17 II Peter 1:20-21 II Timothy 1:13 Psalm 119:105,160 & 12:6 Proverbs 30:5

The Bible is God’s Word to all men. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without any mixture of error.

Core Values

Core values can be thought of as the characteristics that shape a church’s culture. These are the values that will be talked about often among staff members and church members.

  • We value biblical truth as the only foundation for the identity and mission of the body of Christ. So scripture will be held in high regard and will be the basis of all that Austintown Baptist Church teaches.
  • We value developing leaders and will invest time and resources into relationships and opportunities to see people grow in influence.
  • We value creative thinking and will give people permission to create, to try, to fail, and to attempt impossible things, using the imagination to dream big dreams for God.
  • We value messy ministry and are willing to become involved in the lives of people with real needs and problems, in a spirit of love, on behalf of Jesus who modeled this principle throughout His ministry on earth.
  • We value strengthening families and will seek to equip husbands, wives, Moms, Dads, and kids of all ages to relate to each other in love and harmony in a culture that often poses resistance to family strength.
  • We value dynamic worship in which people feel the freedom to connect and communicate with their Creator in praise, and in which seekers can observe in an understandable way the presence of God within His people.
  • We value every-member ministry and will seek to empower the entire membership of the church for ministry to each others according to their God-given SHAPE as well as their mission in the world. Volunteers are the real heroes!
  • We value cultural relevancy in terms of using new technologies to build bridges between the church and the world around us, and also in terms of learning and speaking the heart language of our community.
  • We value ethnic diversity and will see every individual as an equally valuable member of the human family, as evidenced in the price of God’s Son for every person and His gathering of people from every tribe, tongue, and nation to Himself.
  • We value global thinking in terms of tackling enormous, global issues in Christ’s name as well as church multiplication and will seek to foster a church planting movement that grows far beyond the Austintown Baptist Church family.

Sunday School

Sunday School is a time for Small Group Bible Study. This happens on Sunday mornings at 9:00 a.m. We offer a variety of classes for adults. We have classes for young adults, singles, married adults, men's and women's classes - you are sure to find a class that suits your individual needs.

PRESCHOOL MINISTRY

The Preschool Ministry at ABC wants to come alongside you, as a partner, to offer encouragement and support as you raise your children. We want to help you, as the parent, to grow spiritually and allow you to fellowship with other believers without worry or interruption. We provide a clean and safe environment with volunteer worker who has been specifically trained to work with young children. We have individual rooms for each age group including Bed Babies, One-Year-Olds, Two & Three-Year-Olds, and Pre K. This allows us to provide personal care, nurturing and age-appropriate Christian training. We also provide childcare during special worship services and other events.

At ABC your child will have the opportunity to learn about, and experience God's love through Bible stories, interactive play, music, and crafts.

CHILDREN'S MINISTRY

The Children's Ministry of ABC seeks to help children realize their potential in Christ and challenges them to grow into a deeper relationship with Him by showing them who Jesus is in EVERYTHING we do. We desire that every child who comes through our doors knows at least two things when they leave: God loves them (and we do too!) and God has a special plan and purpose for their life.

CHILDREN'S CHURCH is a jam-packed worship service for KIDS ONLY including Praise & Worship, special sermons, interactive DVD's and much more!

YOUTH MINISTRY

If you are in 7th-12th Grade, the Youth Ministry at ABC is the place for you! The purpose of the youth ministry of ABC is to:

  • Reach People;
  • Make Disciples; and
  • Serve Together.

ADULT MINISTRY

Whether you are just starting out on your own by beginning your college career, or you are sending your kids off to college, the adult ministries here at ABC have something for you! Whatever walk of life you come from - whether you are a college student, a parent, a married or a single adult... we have a place for you! We offer more than just church on Sundays, we offer a place for you to belong, a place where you can serve, a place where you can grow in your Christian walk, and a place where you can fellowship with others who are right where you are in life.

SENIOR ADULTS are an important and vital part of the ministry here at ABC. At ABC you will find that the Seniors truly are a "JOY" (Just Older Youth) group. We are excited about what God is doing through our 55+ adults to reach our community and the world for Christ.

Adult Sunday School

Adult Sunday School meets Sunday morning at 9:15 AM in the fellowship hall.

Currently we are working our way through the book Characters Volume 1 from Lifeway.

Every person in the Bible is a supporting actor in God's story—each revealing who God is and what His will is for human beings both then and now. In these characters, we see a glimpse of ourselves, coming to understand our failings, our potential, and God's purpose through it all.

The first volume of characters, The Patriarchs, examines some of the best-known characters in all the Bible. Through understanding not only the stories but the historical and social contexts of people like Abraham, Noah, and Joseph, we see the nature of faith and what it means to believe in a God who is still telling His story through His people today.

Session topics:

  1. Adam and Eve: The First Humans
  2. Noah: The Lone Righteous Man
  3. Abraham: The Man Who Followed God
  4. Isaac: The Miracle Child
  5. Jacob: Father of the 12 Tribes of Israel
  6. Joseph: The Forgiving Leader

Features:

  • Six small-group sessions
  • Personal-study opportunities for ongoing spiritual growth

Benefits:

  • Understand the origins of humanity and God's purpose in creation.
  • See the establishment of God's people of Israel.
  • Gain a greater biblical literacy as you understand these characters’ places in Scripture.
  • Find faith strengthened by seeing a God who makes and maintains His promises.
  • Begin a year-long experience of walking through the Bible, starting with this first volume.
  • Explore the historical and biblical contexts of early Old Testament characters.
  • Find greater meaning in familiar Bible accounts.
  • Become confident of your own place as a character of God's story.
  • Experience the redemption that comes through God's use of imperfect people for His will.
Youth Group

Wednesday Evenings at the Church Youth group meets for fellowship and refreshments at 6PM

How to Become a Member

Steps to Membership in the Austintown Baptist Church Family

We are so glad you have an interest in the Lord Jesus and His Church. A person’s relationship with Jesus Christ is the most important decision they make. In fact, we feel it is so important that there should be some clear communication with every person who seeks to connect with us here at Austintown Baptist Church. The information below will answer questions and tell you all you need to know to get started.

Austintown Baptist receives new members by:

  1. Transfer of membership from another Southern Baptist congregation.
  2. Statement of Faith from a church of similar faith practices. This includes declaring you have trusted in Jesus as your Savior and have been baptized by immersion.
  3. A profession of Faith in Jesus Christ and request for baptism.

The process goes like this:

  1. Pray on if God wants you to be a member of Austintown Baptist, and are there any area's you are willing to serve.
  2. When you feel this is the church family for you and that God is definitely leading you, you may then come forward during the “Response Time” at the end of every Sunday service. The Pastor will introduce you to the congregation.

So there, it is a simple process! We look forward to opening our arms to you. Please call the church office or see any of our ministerial staff to get started.

Important! – If you are sixteen years or younger please be prepared to have a parent or guardian speak to our Pastor before you join Austintown Baptist Church. Children must have an understanding of what baptism means, and why they want to be baptized.

Prayer Request

We value prayer and would love to lift your burdens before the Lord. Please send emails to prayers@austintownbaptist.com. And include your name, who we are praying for, the specific prayer request, and whether or not you wish to remain anonymous.

Rev. Charles Homa, Pastor

Hello! I’m Pastor Chuck Homa, and this is my wonderful wife, Holly, who leads our uplifting praise music every Sunday. We’re so glad you’re here! A little about us: I had the privilege of attending New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and spent seven years serving as an associate pastor before taking on the role of Pastor here at Austintown Baptist.

Holly and I are blessed to live in this vibrant community with our four children and two adorable grandchildren. Besides her vital role in our church, Holly is also a dedicated registered nurse. She truly has a heart for serving others, both in our congregation and through her nursing work, where she advocates for many in need.

We find immense joy in serving the Lord and His amazing people at Austintown Baptist, and we would absolutely love for you to join us for a time of praise and worship. Many of our attendees say that our church feels like a family, which is exactly how it should be!

We offer classes that cater to all ages and deliver inspiring messages aimed at nurturing and empowering disciples, just as the Lord has called us to do. We can’t wait to meet you and welcome you into our church family!
